putting a nice background around your paragraphs

l want to give my paragraph a nice background like in the sliders here http://www.thisisopenpath.co.uk/ or something similar to this http://i.imgur.com/4L3rstP.png. but l keep ending up with this http://i.imgur.com/BxaKp8j.png. Any ideas how lc an perfect this please? Guil Hernandez Nick Pettit

Wrap the text within the p tags with <span> ... </span>. Then give that span a background colour.

HTML would look like..

<p><span>hello World</span></p>
