python clear screen not working

While writing a python program in a .py file the clear screen function will not work when i run the file

os.system("cls" if os.name == "nt" else clear) 

I need to be able to clear the screen and i am just stuck?

You have to put clear command in quotes, so it should be:

os.system("cls" if os.name == "nt" else "clear")
