Question about a blog and employment

HI!

I was wondering, since I want to apply for a job now, but I'm still a beginner, if you as a business owner find a blog to be useful for the applicant to have, or if the employee would find it useful, and if it would be a good idea for me to start a blog, and videos, and talk about self-development, or writing about some technical stuff, but mostly in self-development category.

Do you think it'll be okay if i start a blog 1-2months before the job interview? and write about self-development stuff, as well as some other things? My writing isn't the best, nor my speaking, so there will be errors for sure, but thats how I;m going to improve right, by doing and learning, since id be learning about techniques, and improve it each time. Though, the employee might say i have no eye for the detial lol and i can't write, which would make me very unemployable in this time, so it woudl be better if i got a job , been there like 6 months, and then start a blog etc?

And would the blog increase my chance to get a job? the interview would know me before I woudl come there. Id probably manage to write aprox 30articles in the next two months if i start now.

Steve Hunter i'd tag you if you don't mind, I'm asking you because you are in the UK, and some people say it's different there and here, since most of the advice i get is from the US people.

Hiya!

I think anything that demonstrates the skills you possess or are developing is a good thing. That shows the interviewer what level you're at and whether that makes you a good fit for their team, or not.

Are you looking for a role within a development team? If so, you'll find that a portfolio of your work will really help. If you're looking for a role more generally then the blog idea may assist, it depends what the company is looking for.

I wouldn't worry too much about your command of English. You will pick that up very quickly when you're surrounded by the job-specific language. Every company has its own language to some extent! Plus, maybe accept some pointers on your blog posts; ask for corrections and an explanation as to why what you initilly wrote wasn't quite right? You can correct the post and learn a bit too, perhaps?

I hope that helps - else give me a shout for more!

And, good luck!

Steve.

Thank you!

I'm going to try and code up the site as soon as I can, and id start to write about stuff then :) I suppose i should stay a bit narrow with the topic I talk now, like if i talk about education or grades and things like that, that can be precived differently from people.

Well, thank you ! :D
