Question about how I should do challenge's

When doing challenge's should i be looking at Workspace? I feel like i'm cheating when i look at work space for help. Is fine to look at Workspace for help with the challenge's?

Hi Denise,

I found it very helpful to use my WorksSpaces as a 'cheat sheet' on the first go through of the lesson. I looked ahead at the later parts of the Java Track and I saw the Graphic User Interface lessons and I got REALLY excited. I wasn't able to motivate myself that well by creating a PEZ Dispenser.

Therefore, I breezed through the Challenges I could copy from the WorkSpace, the ones that started stumping me later in the lessons I could always find the answer by browsing forums. (Copy & Paste of the Challenge Question into Google made it easy for me to find most of the answers, but not all of them.)

Once I completed the Track, I had at least exposed myself to all of the principles that he describes and now I have started the Track over. This go through I am reading more of the Teacher's Notes and the User Questions to make sure I understand everything, and I am minimizing my WorkSpaces during the Challenges. If I don't pass the Challenge, I'll re-watch the video and follow the work along in my WorkSpace and so far I haven't been stumped yet. I've just had to practice it a few times to memorize it.

This might not be the best method for all, but it worked great to keep me motivated on the first go-round and once you have finished the track, I think you'll see there is value in going back through and re-learning the principles, especially the ones you didn't quite master the first go through.

Best of luck in your learning! I'm right here with ya, trying to learn as much as I can to hopefully get a job! :)

P.S. If you go back to review a lesson you have completed, make sure you go to your WorkSpaces tab at the top left and delete the WorkSpace for that lesson. It will re-create a fresh one for you when you "Launch Workspace" from the Lesson.

Hi Denise,

I think it is fine to reference whatever helps you pass the challenge - without cheating!! If reminding yourself of code syntax by looking at your workspace does it for you; then carry on doing that.

You will reinforce what you've learned and that will help you progress through the courses. :+1:

Steve.

Thanks for answering! I'll use workspace for help when i need it.

Cool - and if you still can't figure it out, just ask in the Community pages and someone will be along to assist.
