7,008 PointsQuestions for Staff re: Employers on TT
Hello,
So I just received my email stating that my free trial period is winding up. (Thank you for the opportunity, by the way. I'm certainly sticking with the program.)
In the email, I was instructed to switch a field in my Account Settings if I was looking for work (which I am).
My question for you is, realistically, how often are potential employers looking for newbie programmers like us on Team Treehouse? Unless I'm looking in the wrong spot, I don't see very many people looking to hire off of here (with the exception of Team Treehouse itself).
Also, when non-TT employers post for jobs here, do you make it a requirement for them to check off which classes/tracks we'll have needed to pass in order to meet their qualifications? I saw that the opening at Trinity had that, so I'm wondering if it's universal.
Thank you again so much for this life-changing opportunity. I truly hope I find some success in employment early on down the road.
All the best,
Steve
P.S. I am aware this reads like a private message to support, however I thought it could be a useful topic for other people in my position (i.e. later-in-life-career-changers).

1,667 PointsHey Steve, great questions. We have employers contact us very often for help with finding talented Treehouse students. When you mark in your profile that you're open to new job opportunities, that's a signal to us that we can point the employers in your direction.
To date, our focus has been on the education side of helping our students be job-ready. We're working on some incredible new things for the near future that will help our students not just be READY for tech jobs, but actually GET tech jobs. In fact, we have a whole team working on this project now.
Keep an eye on the Treehouse blog and Twitter accounts for announcements related to this topic. Hope that helps!

Yes, this was helpful and certainly nice to hear.
Something else I thought of after I sent that last message: What do employers see when they view our Treehouse profile? Is it the same thing I would see if I clicked on someone? And do they generally understand our point system and have an idea of how it translates into actual knowledge?
Thank you again!
Steve
P.S. I can't wait until the "Get-A-Job Team" is up and running. If you ever need someone to speak positively for TT, let me know. I've been raving about it to everyone I talk to.

1,667 PointsGreat! Yes, employers see the same thing everyone else sees on your profile. We make sure they know the points/badge system as well as possible. Many employers take lessons through Treehouse to get a good understanding of the quality of education you've received as well.
And thanks for the kind words! :)
