Questions on how to do this on java. Recursive Binary

In java you can't just split an array in half.. you have to make a new array of the parts you want to keep. I can't even get that to work.. I get an "Exception in thread "main" java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: 6 > 5" I looked up some examples online and they're similar but they add two arguments a start and end.. changing the value of end to middle every time a condition is met and Recursive Binary is returnned.
