Rails Dev Environment

Hey I was just curious if I have successfully followed a previous Rails installation video here do I need to do the updated one? I did the first one without noticing that there was a more up to date video although I was able to follow the first video successfully. Will there be incompatible content for me if I don't do it in the more updated method? Thanks

I guess that the old one is for Rails 3, is this right?

Yes i would strongly recommend to take the Updated Course.. There have been a few changed from rails 3 to rails 4. If you want to develop rails 4 , the Rails 3 Guide will show you the basics, but you are going to have a few problems taking it on with rails 4 afterwards.
