real world websites

when I visit websites and move the edge of the browser window, I pay attention to how responsive websites are.

I've noticed that all these lessons are for super responsive websites but all the major sites I visit are very unresponsive. craigslist and amazon and apple, their menus dont shrink or elements move around when I shrink my browser window.

so what is the truth about what web designers are asked to make, in terms of making websites?

Don't forget about separate mobile sites and apps!

There are still companies that don't do mobile well, but I think in the cases you mentioned they have apps to serve mobile users instead of fully responsive main sites. Personally I like when sites adjust to browser size instead of device, but other approaches can also work well!

Hi,

There is no truth, you do your best for the good of users and customer satisfaction. And sometimes you have to compromise between what you should do (follow best practice) and what you can or must do.

I looked at amazon and so on. They have responsive design, but they don't work why you resize them, you need to refresh some sites. Why load a style 480px when we know its a 1200px. But just refresh amazon and so on. I agree with you that there are many not responive desing even though we are in 2016.

I still see a awful design too. Like if its been made in paint.

Your here so you can take advantage of it now :)
