Realistic job expectations

So, I've decided to take a career change - I'm a sales manager, and have years of sales experience, I've decided that I'm tired of that, I want to learn how to code.

I'm unsure what the best route for me to take is, I am leaning towards Rails development, in hopes of being able to freelance, or work project by project and being able to live around the country/world while working on projects.

Do you guys think Rails development is the best track to take? or should I do something different. I'm really open to any of the Tracks that'll allow the most freedom/money.

You can do any track and enjoy the freedom (and responsibilities) of freelancing. A few things to note:

  1. What do you want to do exactly? Apps? Websites? Front-end? Back-end? Think of what you want to do but...
  2. ... don't worry too much about it yet! A track doesn't take too long to complete, and you'll likely want to complete more. All of the languages on Treehouse use similar techniques (similar grammar if you will), and so learning one will only make it easier to learn another one.
  3. You can Google around and see where the jobs are; there are many studies and statistics on this, but there are plenty of jobs for ALL languages taught on Treehouse. Any of them will work well.
