Recommended PHP/MySQL books/tutorials?

I'm looking for any good advice from the teachers here or anyone who have done professional PHP development to recommend some good PHP and MySQL books to supplement my learning here. is the php.net worth checking out?

I'm going through the Database foundations and PHP courses but nothing so far yet that combined the two together to build a database driven web application.

So some goods books would be helpful. Or even some helpful tutorials combining the two. A lot of books and tutorials are outdated so I'm looking for something to help with the new fresh stuff, for example I noticed that PHP has the new PDO to connect to Databases which I hear is better than Mysqli and the older version of connecting to databases using PHP so recent stuff would also be helpful.

Thanks.

This book has pretty good ratings and will most likely help you accomplish your goals.

A small online company I volunteer at has just done a fairly large video tutorial on creating a CMS which included MySql. He puts all his tutorials on YouTube so its completely free!

It is 11 hours of content in the playlist so you can imagine how much depth he goes into.

The Entire playlist can be found Here

The Facebook page can be found Here

Its only one guy making the tutorials in his spare time so its not top notch quality like here on Treehouse, but he does a great job IMO

Thanks guys, appreciate it.

I heard on the grapevine Randy Hoyt is currently working on a PHP + MySQL project right now.

Awesome, looking forward to this. Do you know if it will cover OOP? or is that not necessary for building PHP and MySQL sites? because I heard the PDO is basically OOP.

I need something on MySql/Apache/PHP configuration, creation, and maintenance as soon as possible. Andrew, any courses here you can recommend?
