Regarding the Trap effect

"Whenever we have to set up two colors to join or meet up, it's always a good idea to have them overlap just a little bit in case there's a printing error. This way it doesn't leave a gap." Can anyone explain this further, please? What kind of the gap? How often can this happen in practice?

WHEN HE SAYS GAP

... he means a physical white space. overlapping tends to prevent this. i assume that you are practicing your graphics design and its more of a friendly reminder... ("hey bud! dont forget to overlap slightly, as to not leave a gap in yor graphic!")
