Reselling: Who are the best web hosting providers for freelancing business?

Hello,

I am currently researching and mulling over the idea of reselling web hosting to future clients. I've done some freelance in that past but want to start taking it more seriously. I know it will come with more responsibilities, but which would be the best provider(s) that can resolve these queries:

-minimizes overall work (for example, maybe it allows me to automate certain tasks for html/css sites as well as wordpress sites) -great security -comes with technical support for my client's accounts -and any other benefit I may not be thinking about

I currently have my website with dreamhost. I haven't had any issues with them. However, I see in their documentation that if I were to resell, "Customer and technical support for your clients must be provided by you.". So it leaves me to think that if something were to happen, they would not be of any assistance. Maybe I am wrong?

I am not looking for anyone's advice on why I should NOT provide hosting services to clients, nor am I looking for a cheap web host either (nor extremely expensive). This post is about who you think are the best web host providers with my bullet list above.

Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Khalila, I'm pretty new at this myself but I have been using GreenGeeks (greengeeks.com) for about 7 or 8 months now. I am in at their bottom tier of reselling which is $19.95 per month. I am currently hosting my own site there as well as a few others that I run. Basically, you have your site as the main site. Then you can appropriate the rest of your space to others (your clients). You have use of a "Web Host Manager" (WHM) which seperates the different clients. Each client site will have its own CPanel that you also have access to. Within WHM you can allocate how the Cpanel looks for your clients, what features are turned on and how much space, number of email accounts etc they have.

What someone suggested to me, and I would suggest to you, is to just take it slow and avail yourself of any knowledge base and all the documentation on a reseller's site. Look at things like how to upload your files as well as things like how to set up email. (Get used to your clients asking how to set up email clients on their machines.) Then buy a few throw-off domains for yourself and set them up as test clients until you get the hang of it. Set up a few test user accounts and log in as them and see how it feels. Domains are cheap and I believe the experience will help you see the big picture in the long run.

And yes, with any web hosting ultimately your clients will look to you if there are problems or technical support needed. This is where the reseller knowledge base, Google and StackOverflow can be your best friends. Good luck.
