SDK Manager: failed to install - A folder failed to be moved...

When trying to install the SDK Platform and ARM EABI System Image for for Android 4.4.2, I get an error message that says:

"SDK Manager: failed to install A folder failed to be moved. On Windows this typically means that a program is using that folder (for example Windows Explorer or your anti-virus software.) Please momentarily deactivate your anti-virus software or close any running programs that may be accessing the directory 'C:\Users\me\AppData\Local\Android\android-studio\sdk\tools'. When ready, press YES to try again."

I've tried ending the processes of SpyBot and Windows Explorer in the Task Manager-Processes tab, and then pressing YES in the above mentioned error box. I still get the same error message every time.

How do I get this to work? Thanks ahead of time.

Your problem, is that you are installing way too deep in the folders and there is a limit on how long the folders names can pile up.

Solution:

  1. Remove your install from there.

C:\Users\me\AppData\Local\Android*.* and everything inside

---> uninstall, etc

  1. Reinstall the SDK in bare C:\

something like

C:\android-sdk

If you read the SDK docs from Google Android Docs, they suggest that in there.

Hi Zeus, I tried uninstalling the Android Studio, and then installing into bare C:\ as you said. My new path is 'C:\Android\android-studio1\sdk\tools'. I am still getting the same error message when I try to install the SDK for 4.4.2 and its ARM EABI.

Is there another way to get this corrected?

Do you have a skype or teamviewer account, I we can share screens, I would be able to help you better that way.

Ok Zeus, yes I have a TeamViewer account. Do you have gchat? I'm stevejones2045@gmail.com. Connect with me over email or gchat and we can exchange TeamViewer IDs from there.

Thanks!

I tried to contact you and got no response from you

Something else you can do is run a regular check on your windows

I responded to you on Oct 28 with "Hello. Sorry I couldn't get to my computer earlier. Let's connect soon." Your response to that was yesterday, November 3, with "ok".

Please send me an email and let me know what time you are available so that we can connect.
