General Discussion

Section or Badge Dedicated to Grids

I would really appreciate learning how to make custom grids for my web pages. I would also like to know exactly what grids are and how they work.

Is it always appropriate to use someone else's grid system?

Is anyone else curious about grids, how they work, and how to code them?

Hi Melanie McCabe,

I'm currently working on a course dedication to CSS layout techniques. Parts of it will answer your questions about creating and using grids. Look for it on the roadmap soon! :)

Oh that's great!

Thanks for responding.

Is this available now? Thanks.

The short answer on grids is that once you understand how CSS layouts work using floats, margin & padding grids are pretty straight forward.

Here are a few resources to keep you occupied while we wait on the CSS layouts course.

  1. learnlayout.com
  2. short video (3 min) on What a CSS grid is
  3. simple grid, pretty much all you need from a grid
  4. There's also this neat experiment to generate the CSS for custom sized grid based on 960 grid system

That makes sense! I am in the only on the "advanced selectors" stage in CSS foundations, so I'm just starting.

Thanks so much for the resources James.
