Self-Destructing Message App - photo Orientation is wrong.

I'm using 4.4 and 5.0 as Android os to test our app, and I find out the Orientation of photo I took is always landscape, I have to rotate 90 degree to fix it. but I don't think every photo has to be rotated in real. Then I tried to get orientation of it to rotate,but I failed, I got 0 all the time. Could you guys help?
There are few answers upon stackoverflow, but the code is sort of too old to apply.
