Sending a Boolean via Intent.

howdy, I can't seem to see why i'm getting "Condition is always true" on the other side of the intent.
So far, i've got:

InputActivity.java:

private CheckBox mDog;
private Boolean mHasADog;

//in the onCreate:

mDog = (CheckBox) findViewById(R.id.dogCheckBox);

//in an OnClickListener:

if (mDog.isChecked()) mHasADog = true; // keeping this unsimplified
else mHasADog = false; // atm for clarity.
startStory(mHasADog);

//outside the onCreate:

public void startStory(Boolean dog) {
     Intent intent = new Intent (this, StoryActivity.class);
     intent.putExtra("dog", dog);
     startActivity(intent);
}

StoryActivity.java:

// in the OnCreate:

String hasADog;
Intent intent = getIntent();
Boolean dog = intent.getBooleanExtra("dog", false);
if (dog = true) { // here it says "Condition 'dog = true'
     hasADog = "has a dog."; // is always 'true'
} else {
     hasADog = "does not have a dog.";
}
