SEO... WHERE DO I START?!

I have been working on a startup lately and have had some success thus far. The next step for my team and I is to put up a website. We have a web developer doing the website now, however once it is up I am going to be in charge of our SEO and SEM. I know a bit about SEM and have recently gotten Google Adword certified but I am a total beginner to SEO. SO my question is where do i start?? Should i be learning html5? or wordpress? what courses should i take on team tree house to get me going as a successful SEO?

If you're not too familiar with HTML then take the How to Make A Website course.

Optionally follow that up with a deeper dive into HTML course.

Finally take the SEO Basics course.

The basic things you should keep in mind are

  1. Speed. Your webpages should load as fast as possible.
  2. Add original good quality content (articles/blogs) on a regular basis
  3. Use a good SEO Wordpress plugin like All in One SEO or SEO by Yoast.
  4. You might want to combine new blogs with Social ads to give them some buzz. In addition to SEM.
