Serif Fonts In the Real World

I live in Singapore and most of the road signs here are in Sans Serif font. Why is this so? I thought Serif fonts have higher legibility on printed medias?

Hi Li,

Sans Serif fonts are generally thought to be better suited for headings, while Serif fonts are better suited for body text.
