Server Requirements

I am working on a team that will be needing a server for a site that will essentially act like an online education web app and museum experience.

I'm looking for some insight on what good specs and/or server services I should be looking into these days that could handle that?

I wanted to ask because of how Treehouse has handled itself and (ideally) would like the site I'm building to have just as good performance.
