Setting Hierarchical Parent

Hi. I'm using a different version of Android Studio than what Ben is using in these videos. When I wish to create a new activity, I do not get an option to set the Hierarchical Parent (Like Ben set the Hierarchical Parent of HourlyForecastActivity as MainActivity). Is the hierarchical parent for HourlyForecastActivity in my Android Studio set to MainActivity by default?? What is the use of setting a hierarchical parent?
