Should javascript code run in workspace output to the console?

When I run my code in the workspace where I am trying to use the console for output it doesn't seem to work.

example var thing = 'duck'; console.log(thing);

Unfortunately, it the console still isn't working for me in the workspace provided by treehouse...

if your js file is named app.js and is in a folder named js (for example), in the console run

node ./js/app.js

Or, if your file is in the parent directory

node app.js

You can also omit .js if you are inclined to do so :)
