Should one learn PHP in conjunction with Ruby on Rails if one intends to become a RoR developer?

Hello -- I'm nearly complete with the Front End Web Development course and was thinking whether it's wise to learn PHP after learning Ruby on Rails, as this is the programming language I intend to use as a software developer professionally...

If one should learn PHP, does it naturally follow that WordPress be learned as this uses PHP? I've also been thinking of creating a blog, but I would like to use Ruby on Rails to write a blog instead...

Thoughts are appreciated -- thanks!

I don't think you should limit yourself on what you should learn in terms of programming languages. Even if you plan on focusing primarily on Ruby and the Rails framework, you will eventually encounter a PHP application that you may need to support or provide additional development on. PHP is one of the most popular languages around and I think it makes you a more rounded developer by learning it and having some understanding on how it works. Plus, it makes you more marketable on the job market.
