Showcasing personal projects

What's the best way to showcase your personal projects for clients or employeers? Is it better to upload these on the web and share it. Or are there other resources available that allow you to showcase your work easily?

I prefer building them up on my webserver but you can also host static webpages on GitHub pages for free. :-)
