Simple PHP CMS blog etc

Just wanted to know if anyone has come across anything on the site or if there's plans to do something.

I've found a great video series on youTube but the guy races through everything so it requires pausing every few seconds and it sucks. Other videos take completely different approaches and to date I've watched 4 different authors and all take a different approach to making it.

I would love if Treehouse has done something. I'm not talking about the wordpress blog but I'm sure I can extrapolate the information from that to do it, but a completely bespoke PHP CMS blogging/article/review/news/feed island. I think you'll get the idea.

Thanks all.

I'm kind of confused on what you're asking about. Wordpress is a great CMS built from php that is excellent and really simple to start. I recommend using completing the wordpress courses here.

Wordpress is great but it's not truly bespoke. If I was to make my own wordpress theme etc, I might as well make everything from scratch exactly how I want it to work.

I found another series of videos after posting this which are pretty good tutorials.

If you want to create your own "cms" then good luck to you. I too wanted to make my own "cms" from scratch. I was told by a wise professor that I was foolish. My hours put into making a system like that would never compare to something built by hundreds of people putting in thousands of hours.

@Matthew -- So you're the developer making those truly bespoke Simple PHP CMS Blogs everyone's raving about.

@Ernest -- I dig your site - http://ernestg.com/

Thanks Charles. You have no idea how long it took me to come up with that design.

Interesting comments Ernst and Charles. What you're saying is that mySQL and databases should be sacked off and that should just use things like Wordpress.

@charles I haven't created much at the moment. I've only been learning for a few weeks but from what I have learnt, I can't see why making your own blog is a big deal. It takes some time but is not stupidly complex. As I said, I found another great series of videos that take you through it step by step.

@ernst - what did your professor suggest as the alternative? Your site is pretty cool. It's a very original design. :)

I don't think anybody said MySQL and databases should be sacked off...Or even knows what that means. In fact I'm using MySQL in a project right now. I'm not saying anyone should or shouldn't use WordPress. I have used Joomla 2.5 on a project and I was pretty happy with the results, but would not consider using one again unless the project REALLY called for it.

Making a blog is not a big deal..but it will help you to learn the basics.

It was your comment about making things everyone is raving about. Made it sound like it is a pointless idea and should just stick with what is already out there.
