"Simple" php request

Hi.

I would like to create an site, with the simple purpose of checking if my home computer is up. The way I would like it to work is, a simple website, with a green bar saying "You're Computer is up!" if my IP responds to the ping, but if it's down, the bar should change to a red bar, and I should recive a warning email, and an email again when it's up. Do somebody know if this is possible? And if it is, how!

Thanks, and hope it's alright to ask for help on the forum :)

It's possible. http://stackoverflow.com/questions/9841635/how-to-ping-a-server-with-php

Would require you to have a static IP though and if you're looking to use it for website monitoring pingdom would be a much better option because you don't have to worry about the server/computer sending the ping being down.

Alexander: Thank you I will check this out! :)

The computer pinging, will be a dedicated server - So i don't think it's going down. Besides, i'm doing this for the fun too.
