Sitemap works locally but not when published live on server?

I have created a sitemap for my website is I have placed in the root directory of my site. This works fine locally when I open it up, however when I try to publish it on my live server I get a 403 error message saying "not found" I don't understand why this is doing this? Could someone assist me with what I am doing wrong?

Thanks

Verify that the file is uploaded on to your web server in the root directory.

If you still receive this message then you may need to change the permissions on the file so it can be read by all users. Dependent upon your FTP programme you can usually right click the file then select 'Permissions'

Your folders should be set to 755 and pages 644 or 700.

This worked! Thank you very much
