7,369 PointsSitting to much on PC - Health issues
Hi everyone!
I think i saw a post or two before somewhat similar .
What im interested here, is about health .
Let me start about writing my journey, or at least the time i spend on PC most of the time and how it looks because i feel thats something is getting wrong .
I noticed an issue with my right eye, it was -1 two years ago . Its probably -1.5 - 2 now. It looks a bi blury but i can still see . The thing is , that it will get blury one day and i want to avoid it. Im on my last step to get that eye blur in my opinion .
I work all day on computer , and i learn all day on the computer .
My journey looks like :
I sleep around 6h per nigh. ( i should sleep 9h)
Im in college computer every day from 2h till around 7h , its not that i can even learn coding there so i just play chess or learn maths depends , but eyes on pc still.
At home, well, at home i sit different.
On the weekends, i sit even from like 21:00 (9pm) to like 05:00(5am) in the morning. I noticed that my eye got really damaged . When i have to wake up at around 7o clock in the morning , I go sleep at around well 00:00 at midnight from like 20:00-21:00(8pm-9pm) .
-When i wake up , in the morning, my eyes hurt as hell , i have even some rope around it. I also noticed i have some black shade on the outside of my eye . My eyes are also red, and sometimes , when i sit on the weekend, they become slightly yellow, but just very very very slightly , that you have to look to see it as other people dont see it as i ask.
Apart from that, i noticed my shoulder. My right shoulder is not on the same level as the left. its slightly lower. Its a long issue . I do sport and it seem not helping anyways about this shoulder at all.
Sleeping 6h a day, i feel like having no strenght (it might also inclode of not eating nothing in the morning) to do anything mental and physical next day. Even if i got the determination to run to code, i just dont feel any pleasure or fun i just want an basicaly be lazy , but i avoid that since i dont have time for beeing lazy .
Also im worried about my neck, i sit pretty straight but as my shoulders learn backwords, and my but lean forwards with my head, its slightly out of the control.
I try to take breaks, but i rarerly remeber . Usualy when i do , i take 15-20 min break and work 90 minutes
Any advice how could i improve anything i said above?

I like to take breaks every 30 min and do a set of push ups or pull ups just to get muscles moving. I noticed this helps with my back feeling sore from slouching too much too. Do you have any hobbies that aren't computer based? The only way I stay sane is to turn off my brain and exercise.
As for your eye... go see someone. That sounds scary enough to me. Learning programming isn't much use if you can't see the screen in a couple years.
Good luck!

9,018 PointsA lot of guys at my last internship had standing desks. I also try to find places at school and in the library where I can stand and do work at the same time. I think that's about as good a solution as you're going to get.
If you're around an Ikea you could look at some Ikea hacks to throw a standing desk together. I've been considering that option myself. Good luck.

7,369 PointsOh good you mentioned that, it flew out of my head. Thats a great idea in my opinion. But i won't be able to get anyways since I'm 17 years and very soon 18 and a lot of things change in my life.
bdw , what about if somebody is like 6ft 7inches ? ( I'm not that tall but just wondering).

Courses Plus Student 40,065 PointsHi Aurelian,
I advise you to drink water frequently, take break in every 20 or 30 minutes to walk around or warm up exercise a bit in every early morning or late night before sleep. Avoid snack foods or cokes that would affect your health and try to reduce long hours on computer, 3-5 hours would be good enough.
Here's some great tips from David Walsh -8 Ways For A Programmer To Stay Sane
Hope it helps. :)

7,369 PointsHi, thank you !
I do drink water all the time, in fact , i have all ways a glass of water on my desktop and when it finishes i get it full again.
In the morning, I'm too bad organised at the moment. I might try to do something in morning when i get better with time.
At night, well, am quite well tied but depends on the day and i don't want to get dirty too .
I eat healthy pretty healthy food, and i never drink cokes and that stuff. If anything ill drink a juice.
The thing about pc, is that at school i spend on a day average of 3h! I have to learn at home something that actually will be useful and that I'm interested in. Not some courses at college that treehouse have with professionals and that stuff .
Thank you for the links , i definitely check them . As of my personality , I'm afraid of glasses :P

Courses Plus Student 40,065 PointsYou are welcome Aurelian :D, you can research more about this issue, everyone has different health issues. For me, I didn't feel comfortable sitting on sofa which can cause my back pain or neck, I prefer more easily to use desktop along with two external monitors.

7,369 PointsUmmmm, sitting on sofa caused my neck pain but i felt to do better , but at night fell asleep . I do like desktop , but the way everything is set up, i never have ,y legs on floor, like 98% of the time, are on hair. SOmetiems on left, sometimes on right etc.. if their on floor , i just slip from my chair xd .
Simple things that are hard to achieve . Wow learning programming must be like teaching a child how to write an alphabet, eh excuse me, writing a letter more likely xd
Well, when you got the basics of it, its like down the heel really . If your new , like me , you might still need some help but when you get like 100% , you can just come , sit down and get on with it. Instead in real life you just have to sit , take beaks ... : p
I actually will do a research on how to improve health and plan everything too. I recently had a great post from gloria too.

7,369 PointsHi, thank you for the response.
I actually do Martial Arts as my second hobby . But the thing is that when i exercise e.g. 2h or going to swimming with around 3h , its day . When i get at night, i have done everyting , so it kicks me off , i dont watch TV or anything and if i take a break on youtube, that 15-20 minutes , can be a lot moe longer to me to get back again .
I looked on the internet about the eyes, i coudnt find an accurate answer. Thsi summer actualy i went to see that person ( eye specialist ) but because i had something like infalaction ? not infection like burning i dont know the name of it . So my left eye i hink it was was crying ( waterin) all the time, it was like a pin , pinning my eyes allways , even when it not moving . Horribile, basicaly 24hours eye pain .
I saw also other posts too , but i gave a quick look on them some time ago when i was living and didnt subscribe . If someone would find them it would be useful too i believe.
