[SOLVED] Why square brackets for interior array?

Why has Alena Holligan used square brackets [ ] for the interior arrays should they not be curly braces? Or does it not matter?

Answer

After completing the multidimensional arrays challenge. I have learnt that you can use square brackets when the keyword array is not used to define the array.

Mayur Pande thanks for chiming in. You can initialize an array using

$myArray = array("item1", "item2");

Or you can use the shortcut

$myArray = ["item1", "item1"];
