Some Feedback on Achievements and Badges

When I first came to the Achievements section on my Profile page early into my subscription (sidenote: awesome site), I saw the badges that I earned halfway into finishing the first project on making a website. Fast forward a project and deep dive on, and when I check back on it, I'm surprised to see that all the badges are just there. There isn't any organization outside of a linear sorting by date received. There also isn't any badge or indication anywhere on my profile that I've managed to complete my first website, or have finished going through a thorough course on HTML.

It would be nice if TH could show that information, and perhaps in a more usable manner as well (I say this coming from learning usability as part of my college degree), since scrolling down and looking at the pile of badges doesn't remain very compelling after a few (dozen) visits to check my progress. In particular, I have a few ideas I'd like to communicate based on my experience:

  • Add badges, or whatever term you'd call it, for all the projects, deep dives and LAs a user has completed (make sure the logos are consistent with the ones displayed in the Library);
  • Arrange the different types of badges in sections, with the most important ones (LA > P > DD in my opinion) showing up first, and the general badges also arranged by field (HTML, CSS, JS, etc.);
  • Allow them to be clickable and linked to the Stage, Course, etc. they came from.

That's all I've got for now. If anyone wants to add their own ideas for improving the user experience (think also in terms of potential employers coming to look at your profile page), feel free to chime in down below.

Hi TJ,

I agree with your observations here, definitely some good ideas for better organisation of the completed badges.

Have you sent your ideas to Treehouse support directly? I think posts can easily be lost on this forum, so staff members might not see your post.

I for one would be interested in their response on this matter.

Cheers
