server starts ok with "rails server" command in windows command prompt. Then the cursor blinks and won't accept any keystrokes.

39,199 PointsThat's what it's supposed to do. When you start the server that the command prompt is busy running the server. You can either open up another prompt or run it as a daemon (in the background) using the -d switch.
