Static directory vs. current directory

Is resources/static a design chioce by thymeleaf or a does it simply use the relative directory of the html file.

Per my understanding that is the default location that Thymeleaf looks for any static resources. I believe it can be changed in the Thymeleaf settings (although that has not been explained to date).
