Python Python Basics (2015) Python Data Types String Formatting

String Help

name = "david" subject="Treehouse loves {}" subject.format(name)

Why is name not being inserted into placeholder ?

strings.py
name = "david"
subject="Treehouse loves {}"
subject.format(name)

apparently the answer was : name = "david" subject="Treehouse loves {}" .format (name)
