Stuck, have researched concepts but don't understand.

Instructions are: add a # symbol and lastName in uppercase to the end of the userName string. The final value of userName is "23188XTR#SMITH".

I'm struggling to understand the concepts here.

app.js
var id = "23188xtr";
var lastName = "Smith";
var userName = + id.toUpperCase();
var userName = id + lastName.toUpperCase();

will haydon — Glad I could help.

But normally, you would select "best answer" on the answer that provided the most assistance in resolving the issue. Marking your own reply as "best answer" could be confusing to other students reading this question later!

You're really close, but you have two things missing on that last task:

  • the "id" should still be converted to lowe case
  • there needs to be a '#' character added between the "id" and "name" values
