Stuck on clipping mask step of Additional Shape Tools

Having trouble with the clipping mask step

Mat says draw a thick line path over the moon part of the Moonwalker icon and I did. ^_^

Then he says draw a rectangle with no fill and no stroke over the moon part of the Moonwalker icon, and I did this too. ^_^

Then he says "select them both" (unclear whether he's talking about the invisible rectangle and the moon, the moon and the thick line, or any combination of these), go to Object > Clipping Mask > Make. I do this but then there is trouble. ;_;

I do this, taking "select them both" to mean the whole moon icon and the invisible rectangle. I tried bringing the thick line to the front but that doesn't work either. Instead of the moon disappearing beneath the thick border, the top half disappears beneath the top border of the canvas, like so. See link.

Please send halp ;_;

When making clipping masks, make sure your top object is the shape you want displayed, and everything else that is selected below it will be hidden.

what do you mean by display?

Never mind figured it out! Re-watched the video several times very closely and worked out what I was doing wrong.
