Stuck on Ruby Hash Challenge

Question: Using the merge method, create a hash named final_item that contains the grocery_item hash merged with the calories hash.

My answer:

hash.rb 
grocery_item = { "item" => "Bread", "quantity" => 1, "brand" => "Treehouse Bread Company" }
calories = { "calories" => 100 }
grocery_item.merge( calories ) = final_item

Not sure what is wrong, but can't figure it out.

In computer science, the assignment to variable is on the left side while the value is set on the right side of the assignment operator.

grocery_item = { "item" => "Bread", "quantity" => 1, "brand" => "Treehouse Bread Company" }

calories = { "calories" => 100 }

final_item = grocery_item.merge( calories )
