Sublime is $79, but the trial period is unlimited. Just use it for a while, and once you realize that all the bundles and extensions that can be used with it make it incredible, you'll end up wanting to pay for it, lol.

On Windows I use Notepad++ and it can do pretty much everything Sublime Text can do. On OS X, I've heard great things about Text Wrangler both are free great choices as text editors.

You can use, but sometimes when you save a document it ask you to buy the license. I think is the best editor.

If on a Mac, Komodo is free and is similar to sublime. You can change themes and it comes with options of different web templates.

Actually tried to buy sublime and my credit card rejected it as a suspicious transaction ... I had to call them to get them to reactivate it ... just use for free until they get their act together. I certainly won' try and "buy" it again.
