iOS Swift Collections and Control Flow Introduction to Collections Working With Arrays

Swift Collections and Control Flow

Question from task: We also learned about reading values from an array. Retrieve the 5th item (remember array indexes start at 0) and assign the result to a constant named value.

My question: I do not understand how to retrieve and assign a value.

array.swift
// Enter your code below
var arrayOfInts = [1,2,3,4,5,6]
arrayOfInts.append(7)
[1,2,3,4,5,6,7] + [8]

Hi Linden,

To retrieve a value from an array you need to write something like array[x] where "array" is the name assigned to your initial array (in your instance arrayOfInts) and "x" is the index number within the array for the item you wish to return.

Remember that array indexes start at 0 so item 5 in an array is located at index 4.

To assign this to a value, you first need to declare a variable or constant and assign it to the value you are retrieving from the array.

i.e. your code should look something like this:-

var assignedValue = array[x]

Hope that helps. I'm trying to give you the answer without explicitly writing your code for you :-)

Cheers Don

Thank you so much!

No problem at all :-)
