Development Tools HTTP Basics Introduction to HTTP HTTP Requests Using Telnet

telnet and httpbin questions

a few questions here. im confused on what his example at 5:50 was showing us about the /treehouse directory. can we use telnet to connect to other web services like youtube to get their /xml? would we have to use httpbin.org? or is that just an example website?

telnet will connect to any host and port you give it. So in theory you can go to any website and request whatever HTML or XML they have. However, as you might guess, it won't be very helpful with encrypted websites.
