Testing contact forms on local server

I'm developing a Wordpress theme on my local server environment, and I'm trying to test that the contact form submission works properly. I'm using the Ninja Forms plugin. I made a submission with the contact form, but I never got an email about it. I have my own email address setup as the admin email. Any advice on what the problem might be is appreciated.

What local server are you using and what computer platform are you on (Mac, Windows, Linux)?
