Text edit with mac

I'm using an apple's text edit, and the code I'm writing in HTML isn't showing up when I load it in a browser in other words its not "live". Could I have any help with this? thanks.

Apple Text Edit is a rich text editor (styles applied) you will want to use a programmer's notepad such as:

  1. Text Wrangler
  2. Text Mate
  3. Sublime Editor

As Mark pointed out, Textmate and Sublime Text are good options. You could also try Cholocate
