There's really only one halfway decent programmer's editor for iPad I've found, which is Textastic

Depending what you need it for Kodiak is a nice alternative.

There is one for PHP and JavaScript

https://koding.com/ is a pretty good project :) work from ipad, desktop whatever :)

Seems like long term a web IDE will be the way to go. A lot of people write huge amounts of code in something like CodePen nowadays because of the robust debugging coupled with modern browser dev tools.

I'm seriously addicted to codepen, haven't tried it on an iPad yet

There's also a version of Vim for iPad. I'm not sure how it is, but I'm sure it's miserable with the virtual keyboard. I'd think that's the case with coding on iPad in general though.
