Text size won't change. Weird glitch?

Hi, I have been researching how to fix this. I just put Ai on my computer and am going through the web design track, but when it comes to the text, my text will only appear really tiny (1pt?) and when I try to change the size it turns into some weird blotchy thing. If I try to change the size before I type, I just type in the blotch-mode. The bigger I try to change the size, the bigger the blotch. I am scrolling through countless "related" issues on the adobe forum and can't find how to fix this. Thanks for your help.

You need to check the rendering properties. You're having trouble with optimization. What you need to check is whether the graphics card or the processor is used as a priority. As a feature you need to control, the OpenGL GPU is available in Adobe Illustrator.
