The "family" parameter?

Hello,

Video in question: Build a JavaFX Application -> Design a Better App -> Styling

At minute 02:02 - Craig said in this video: "Family was the parameter that was passed in there, it's describing the type here."

What does that mean? I understood that it has something to do with Inheritance, but I don't understand where that "font-family" comes from.
