Hey Riya! Ez mistake to make! Just needs to be in the onCreate method with the correct id.

import android.os.Bundle;
import android.view.View;
import android.widget.Button;

public class MainActivity extends AppCompatActivity {

    protected Button growthButton;

    @Override
    public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
        super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
        setContentView(R.layout.activity_main);
        growthButton = (Button) findViewById(R.id.button1);
    }

}

Thanks so much Tony. I had tried putting it inside the onCreate method, didnt work though. But after seeing your code I realized that I was putting R.Id.button1, "I" was in caps. changed it to smaller case it worked. Thanks again. Aprreciate your help.
