The name does not exist in the current context

When I created my integers, I named them as public readonly int x_axis and public readonly int y_axis. But when compiled, this produces an error that says The name `x_axis' does not exist in the current context and same with the y axis as well. However, this error disappears when I changed these variable names to x and y when declared. What can cause this issue?
