The question is unclear

The challenge says: "Lines are determined by last name". What does this mean?

ConferenceRegistrationAssistant.java

  public int getLineFor(String lastName) {
    /* If the last name is between A thru M send them to line 1
       Otherwise send them to line 2 */
    int line = 0;

    return line;
  }

You should check if lastName begins with A-M. So if lastName is > than M it would land into line 2. If lastName is <= M the name would be written into line 1.

You only change the varaible of line by a condition.
