Thinking of making an opensource web ide similar to Brackets (http://brackets.io/) Where to start?

So I'm thinking about making an open source web ide similar to something like brackets (http://brackets.io/) (https://github.com/adobe/brackets) How would i go about doing this, I want to code it in html, css, and javascript but will I need somekind of native shell for this to work like brackets has? BTW some reasons I want to do this is because: 1. Brackets takes forever to ever accept pull requests, if they even are ever accepted 2. I'm a newish web developer so this will help build up my skillbase and 3. This will polish my skills, help me learn git, and work with a team. If anyone wants to help collaborate with me on this project your welcome to just reply with a way to contact you or email at: planetvaster@gmail.com
