This course needs an update!

I couldn't follow along with this video at all because, in the latest version of Chrome's DevTools, the Timeline looks totally different. Other features discussed so far in this course also have changed. Judging by how some people were commenting about this same issue about 1 year ago, it looks like this course is overdue for an update, Treehouse people!

Can anyone recommend any awesome video tutorials elsewhere that are more current? Thank you.

What makes things awkward is that the year in which the course was published isn't clearly stated. How old is this course, four years? I'm sure the information was correct at the time this course came out but timeliness is important. In my opinion, Treehouse courses need to have the year stated so we students can make a timely decision about which courses we should take. I also think that out-of-date courses should be scrapped and replaced with more up-to-date courses.

hi Sean, I agree, public dates are needed. There is a method to view the dates. If you have a pro plan or a historic basic plan w/ download content enabled, you can subscribe to any or all courses with most podcast apps and the publish dates will show in the feed. A more simple approach is to guestimate how old the course is based on how low it is in the library when sorted oldest to newest and by viewing the date of course forum questions surrounding the course videos. Some questions are years old and that is telling.

Quick suggestion - perhaps add the new course to the Web Dev track, and deprecate this one?

I'd also suggest that Dev Tools is likely to change many more times, in the not so distant future. With that in mind, the tutor in the video should mention this and refer viewers to the teacher's notes for any changes since the video was made?

The above mentioned link seems to conflict or be redundant by another course already listed in the Front End track.....https://teamtreehouse.com/library/introduction-to-front-end-performance-optimization. This video has been out of date for at least two years now? Kind of a messy way to end the front end web dev track imho!

there may be a new course but this course is still required for the Front-End Web Developer track. that needs to be changed as well.

This course does indeed need an update, but it still provides a lot of useful information. Also the changes aren't that drastic, people should still be able to do most of what is being taught.

Mr. Young your correct in there is a lot of valuable information there. But to a new person struggling to understand the problems and then to have to ADJUST the tools provided is asking a lot from a frustrated learner.

I agree. There's still plenty of relevant guidance here.

For those interested, the current equivalent to Timeline is Rendering. Click the 3 dot menu and select more tools to view rendering options.

Very helpful, Abraham, thank you!

Seconding a lot of the previous comments posted here. Why is this outdated course still a part of the track?
