This doesn't seem to work

It should work, but it doesn't.

maps.py 
backwards = [
    'tac',
    'esuoheerT',
    'htenneK',
    [5, 4, 3, 2, 1],
]

def reverse(item):
    r = []
    for nitem in reversed(item):
        r.append(nitem)
    return r

I am assuming the challenge is to reverse the contents of that backwards list you have?

I believe reversed() will only reverse the indexes.

You can try using a for loop and using -1 as the step argument on list slicing syntax. 

r = []
for nitem in item:
    r.append(nitem[::-1])

This should return the list with all contents reversed.

-1 Tells python to start at the last index of each item in the list, and work backwards.
