I live in region where there aren't very many programming/front-end jobs and the competition for these jobs is fierce (I have met people with master's degrees applying for junior developer jobs).
Does anyone have any tips on relocation to a different region of the country where these types of jobs are more plentiful without first having a job?
Or has anyone else dealt with this? What was your strategy for overcoming this obstacle?
I am still a junior developer, and many of the telecommuter jobs seem to be targeted at people with more experience -- but maybe I'm looking in the wrong places?
Thanks in advance!

Where is it you're based and where is it you'd like to move to?

13,023 PointsI would recommend applying for jobs in those places before you move and making sure it is locked down. I cannot image a worse fear then moving to a new place and trying to find a job with no connections, limited experience, and no income...
You could apply online, fly in if needed, and at least scope out the area. Depending on the cost of living your savings could burn out in a few months leaving you in a very rough spot.

24,512 PointsI guess I will try filling apps out and see if I receive a response -- what's the worst that can happen? Right?
Yeah, it would get pretty rough if I happened to run out of savings.... without a job. Thanks for your input Ricky!

13,023 PointsSounds great! There is the downside that you could end up travelling for a job you don't get but that cost is much less then the risk of being jobless in a strange place trying to scrape by on savings. Check out some job boards in the areas you are looking at and see what pops up.
